Our Services

Rural New Build Homes

We’ve grown a reputation for rural new build homes that win the approval of both planning officers and our clients.

Gaining recognition for Periscope House, our first Paragraph 84 (then Paragraph 55) home, on Channel 4’s Grand Designs in 2014, our portfolio stretches across National Landscapes, Greenbelts and isolated rural sites. We are known for our research in Paragraph 84, and have a deep understanding of how these planning situations can play out, guiding you through the process stress-free.

Every house we design is unique, evolving from your brief to maximise the beautiful site it sits within.

Farm Buildings and Redevelopment

From barn conversions to master-planning entire farms; we pair our rural planning expertise with a sensitivity to people and place to design the best solution for you and your land.

We’re all about improving places for the long term, increasing biodiversity for a flourishing future, and making places where the people that live there can really thrive. We can help you find ways to reimagine your farm buildings, to better meet the needs of the future. We go gently, with a landscape-led approach to create beautiful homes that use existing buildings and local or repurposed materials.

At Twin Barn Farm we cleverly re-imagined an existing barn structure to create an attractive home and furniture workshop for our client. The build was enabled through permitted development to simplify the planning process.

Site Finding and Appraisals

Have you found a beautiful, rural site but you're unsure of what to do next? Our Site Appraisal service can help.

This service helps you explore the potential of your site, so that you can find out as early as possible whether the site is suitable for your home, and start to think about the appropriate planning route. We’ll look into relevant national and local policy, local designations, planning history and primary considerations.

And if you haven't even found a site yet, we can start from scratch and help you find your perfect pocket of land.

Retrofit Appraisals

Do you want to make your home as energy efficient as possible? We provide an evaluation service that helps you compare the energy savings of different technologies. This assessment will show you the best way for you to improve your home’s energy efficiency.

We will then help you draw up the technical drawings and specification, helping you to overcome any potential planning hurdles. Or if you feel confident – you could go it alone, empowered by knowing the ins and outs of your different options.

Our retrofit service is also a great accompaniment to any home extension plans.

House Extensions

We understand that a home extension is about more than just increasing floor space. Our extension projects are sensitive to the demands of family life, and individual budgets, enhancing the space by maximising natural light and utilising existing materials.

If you want to build it yourself to keep costs down and get your hands dirty, we can design your extension using our modular self-build system U-Build.

Community Housing

On all of our projects, we nurture relationships with stakeholders and take a collaborative approach to design.

We work with Community Land Trusts and neighbourhood groups to collectively design a space that considers all people and planet.

We can help community groups at any stage; from assessing a site, to hosting community design workshops, and working through tricky planning situations.
