We’ve broken ground at Nest House in Herefordshire! This project has been a long time in the making, with planning permission granted back in 2018. The clients have been on quite a journey and we’re delighted to be a part of the construction phase, delivered, in part, via our contracting arm Studio Bark Projects.
Surveys carried out by UM Associates pre-planning identified great crested newts (a protected species) and smooth newts on the site. With assistance from Andrew Tillson Willis from local firm ATW Ecologists the first task was to erect a newt fence in order to form an enclosure from which any newts can be collected prior to digging.
As with Box House, we’re hopeful that we can run part of the construction as a #barklivebuild – an opportunity for giving hands on construction experience to students, with build experience focused on the climate emergency. Since last summer we’ve been developing a new collaborative student build programme called ‘No Building As Usual’. The aim is to recognise the immediate changes required in education and the construction industry and to ensure that we’re reaching a diverse group of students from across different backgrounds and built environment disciplines. Do let us know if you’d like to be involved!
