Nick’s Passivhaus Economics Published

Tuesday of this week saw the well attended 2015 UK Passivhaus Conference. One of the highlights for us was the afternoon presentation by Dr. Christina Hopfe. Alongside imparting insightful knowledge on the impact future climate scenarios on current design principles, Christina also used the opportunity to soft launch her new book, The Passivhaus Designer’s Manual: A Technical Guide to Low and Zero Energy Buildings. The book features chapters from a number of guest authors, and we are pleased to announce that the chapter on Passivhaus Economics was written by our very own Nick Newman.

Edited by Dr Christina Hopfe and Dr. Rob McLeod, The Passivhaus Designer’s Manual is a technical volume containing detailed advice for designers looking to build to the exacting passivhaus standard.  Nick’s chapter, ‘Passivhaus Economics’, features a discourse on the factors to consider when making financial decisions around low energy construction and invites the reader to think more holistically about whole life costs. In line with the rest of the book, formulae and worked examples are included to help others with their own projects.

We are very much looking forward to receiving our copy of the book, and would encourage others (especially the architecture students we teach) to read a preview here.

Congratulations to Christina and Rob; it is a fantastic publication to contribute to.
