Studio Bark have been very busy at the Excel Centre showcasing our U-Build product in the form of a two-storey exposition for the Grand Designs Live show. U-Build is designed primarily for self-builders and aims to transform the way people think about buildings and the way they are built, by simplifying the construction process and enabling anyone to participate.
The expo structure is conceived as a cut away section of a two storey house complete with roof terrace, a sound-insulated workspace, and a feature CNC stair. The structure was built over three days by a well-versed crew of U-Builders and students from UCL, and is now being used for consultations, and to host to the Grand Designs ‘casting couch’. The roof terrace to the working pod is doubling as an interview spot with views across the entire show.
The structure has been sponsored by UPM WISA Plywood and Fologram’s hololens headset is also being showcased – the augmented reality technology has really caught the imagination of visitors to the expo.
The U-Build expo is to be dismantled at the end of the show and will be transported to the Birmingham NEC in flat-pack form, ready for the Birmingham Exhibition (9th-13th October).
