For months we have been looking forward to the airing of Grand Designs: The Street! The series features 10 pioneers who are self building their own homes at Graven Hill, the largest custom and self-build community in the UK. Box House, was designed for our clients Chris and Roxie who were some of the youngest pioneers at Graven Hill.
Yesterday, on the 25th April, the 4th episode of Grand Designs: The Street was aired on Channel 4 and we gathered in our studio with family and friends for a little trip down memory lane.

Re-living the U-Build system we developed being used by students (with no prior construction experience) to create a piece of architecture in incredibly short time, was truly remarkable. Sustainable, made of natural materials, easy to build, modular, flexible and cost effective, our ultimate goal for the U-Build system is making it available for the masses to create affordable houses, workplaces and eventually communities anywhere around the world. This was a perfect opportunity to demonstrate how the U-Build system functions to the public.
We thoroughly enjoyed the evening, in particular being able to share the celebrations with some of the students who worked with us over the course of the summer.
We’ll be showcasing and demonstrating U-Build at the annual Grand Designs Live show taking place between 4-12 May at ExCeL London. This will be a great opportunity for anyone interested in the system to build some boxes or chat with us about their own budding self-build ideas.
