Studio Bark spent a thoroughly enjoyable couple of days in Leeds preparing for the opening of 34 Boar Lane a new pop-up arts space in the City Centre. The project is the result of a collaboration between LJ Real Estate and East Street Arts, an arts organisation and leading provider of artist workspaces.
Following the successful completion of a prototype pod in Manchester’s Canada House back in March, Studio Bark were asked to oversee the self-build of five pods for artists and makers. The retrofit of the building, an old tool emporium, involved using the tried and tested U-Build construction system.
At the beginning of the two days East Street Art’s prospective residents were briefed on how the flat-pack system worked. They were then each tasked with building their own spaces, overseen by Studio Bark. U-Build has been designed with inclusivity in mind, for people of all levels of construction experience. We were therefore delighted by the smooth and speedy creation of the five pods, which, at the end of two days hard work (and a bit of play) looked brilliant.
The whole process was documented by photographer Lenny Codd, who is credited for the wonderful photos shown here.
